Spielertage 2005 Tournament Results

The Erlanger Spielertage 2005 are over. Here are some notes about the tournaments:

In absence of Ralf Lehmkuhl, the defending champion, it was a tight event in the finals, eventuelly won by Michael Radziej. Gerd Siemering from Munich won the price for the highest game, as he did previous year. This year with 107 points, three less than previous year.

This year the tournament started with some trouble for the tournament directors. Allowing sign ups till few minutes before the tournament, it happend that 47 people signed up and there simply weren't enough chairs for so many people. This rough start caused some initial delay. Next year we'll be prepared

Due to the large number of players the first 4 initial rounds took slightly longer than last year. Since there was a 4 way tie for 4th to 7th rank, the subscoring had to decide about the 5 finalists. We'd might need a different scoring or more rounds in 2006.

The focus of the first round was split between serious tournament play and the simple fun to play with many different players. The final was slightly more "serious" though.

With some quite a few of the non finalists watching, the finals proceeded smoothly. Marco from Munich took an early lead after the second deal, which he eventually defended by a close margin till the last hand was played. Runner up was Astrid from Nürnberg, who wasn't in a final for the first time. This tournament ended the two year reign of the Gehr family.
